Maintenance firm saves fuel costs through fleet tracking

EIC replaces telematics supplier of nine years

National electrical and mechanical maintenance firm EIC has installed location-based technology into its fleet of vehicles and expects to save more than a quarter of a million pounds in fuel alone.

EIC has replaced its current supplier, which has provided telematics for the past nine years, with Cybit’s Fleetstar-Online product.

The company is banking on a rapid return on investment through improved productivity, greater efficiency and effective route planning.

The location-based technology has been placed on all 160 vans and provides real time visibility to compare actual versus planned activity. This in turn enables EIC to meet strict timeframes and meet service level agreements.

‘The potential savings that we can achieve could add up to hundreds of thousands of pounds,’ said managing director Ian Lyall.

‘We had an extensive consultation and training period at the outset, and since then we have had a single point of contact at Cybit to give us on-going advice when we need it. We are confident that in the future we will be able to continue developing our use of the system to further benefit our business.’

Lyall says construction and maintenance firms face many challenges, particularly EIC as it is a smaller operation. He says having tools to manage the fleet is essential to ensure all resources are being used effectively.

The vans have all been installed with a tracking device, which is monitored by GPS in real time. Data is then transmitted to Cybit’s online control centre and information is forwarded to a standard web browser.
