AMD unveils Vision Pro for business

Chip giant extends consumer Vision brand to commercial PC systems

AMD is bringing Vision to the business market

AMD is extending its Vision platform to cover business-focused systems with the announcement of Vision Pro, a new commercial platform that puts the emphasis on delivering better visual capabilities.

Vision Pro is an extension of the Vision consumer laptop marketing initiative AMD launched in September 2009, which is based around real-life situations for buyers rather than list of hardware specifications.

The platform already features in the new ThinkPad Edge and ultraportable ThinkPad x100e systems announced this week by Lenovo.

Like Vision, the Vision Pro logo is intended as a guarantee to buyers that systems are capable of performing the tasks for which they are purchased.

Commercial PCs based on Vision Pro will have out-of-the-box support for multiple monitors, and be capable of videoconferencing, seamless viewing of video content, and have the performance necessary to create and view rich presentations with embedded video and 3D graphics, according to AMD.

Chief marketing officer Nigel Dessau said that Vision Pro has support for the latest open standard security features and the performance headroom needed for standard productivity applications.

Like the consumer Vision brand, Vision Pro is based on AMD's mainstream and second-generation ultra-thin platforms. These use Turion II and Turion II Ultra processors or Turion Neo X2 and Athlon Neo X2 processors, respectively, combined with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics.
