Computacenter positive about half-year performance

Services firm encouraged by bumper start to 2009

Computacenter has seen a flurry of new services deals in the first four months of the year

IT services firm Computacenter said it is optimistic about trading in 2009 as profits in the first four months of the year were ahead of the numbers posted in the same period a year ago.

Speaking ahead of its annual general meeting, chairman Greg Lock said the company was in a better position to make a year-to-year comparison than when it released its interim management statement last month. He said the timing of Easter had previously made direct comparison difficult.

The company said it expected similar performance for the company’s first-half profit results this year.

“While much remains to be done in the remaining eight months of the year we are encouraged by this positive start to the year,” said Lock.

Last month, Computacenter reported a revenue fall for its first quarter of 2009, but profit was boosted by a six per cent growth stemming from new services deals in the UK.
