Crypto tool aids sharing of keys

Data Encryption Systems has updated its DESlock+ encryption tool for securing files and folders on Windows PCs. The new release simplifies distribution of encryption keys.

DESlock+ lets users have multiple encryption keys on their PC, so that some keys protect local files while others are shared with colleagues – to protect network shares, for example. Previously, the business edition required users to store and exchange keys using USB tokens. But this is not necessary in DESlock+ 3.2, said the firm.

Users can also now create, delete and share keys, or the IT department can control their distrib- ution, said DES managing director David Tomlinson. Additionally, users can opt to store their encryption keys on a USB Flash drive instead of their PC hard drive. This gives extra protection to laptop users if their system is lost or stolen.
