Mid-range smartphone struggles to make an impression

LAS VEGAS: Acer hasn't made much of a name for itself in the UK smartphone market, but it's looking to change that with the affordable Liquid Z5.

If the handset's specs are anything to go by, however, it might struggle. The phone, set to cost €169 (£140) when it goes on sale in Europe later this month, has a middling 5in 480x854 display, is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core processor and runs Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software.

The fully plastic phone also features Acer's custom software, and features a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera and 4GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB via micro SD.
