We offer our opening impressions on how the S4 measures up to another Android top dog

Taiwanese firm HTC has lost a significant portion of its smartphone market share to Korean firm Samsung over the past few years.

Yet, even with the marked decline in sales, HTC is still considered a heavyweight competitor in the Android eco-system. This is because the firm has a track record for releasing excellent, critically acclaimed smartphones, that often on paper outperform Samsung's top-end Galaxy handsets.

Clearly aware of this, Samsung has at times been suspected of playing dirty when competing with HTC.

Most recently Samsung was suspected of mounting an underhand smear campaign against HTC and its flagship One smartphone in the company's native Taiwan ahead of the S4's arrival later this year.

In this video demo, we compare the two handsets to see whether the S4 will prove a new rival for the HTC One on its release next week.
