Lenovo unveils Windows 10-ready ideacentre Stick 300

Pocket-sized tech turns any HDMI-enabled screen into a PC

Lenovo has unveiled a Windows 10-ready ideacentre Stick 300 pocket computer that turns any HDMI-enabled screen into a desktop PC when paired with a 2.4GHz wireless keyboard and mouse.

The 15mm thick ideacentre Stick 300 aims to offer a full PC experience and is powered by an Intel Atom Z3735F processor, with 2G RAM and 32G of storage which can be upgraded via a microSD slot.

It will also feature WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and, despite initially shipping with Windows 8.1, will be available for a free upgrade to Windows 10 when the OS launches on 29 July.

The ideacentre Stick 300 will be available from the Lenovo store, Dixons and Amazon at an unspecified point in July starting at £129.99.

Jun Ouyang, Lenovo's vice president and general manager of worldwide desktop and visuals, said that the firm expects the pocket computer to prove a hit with business buyers who regularly have to travel.

"We've looked at the computing needs of travellers, business people and families, and realised that a truly portable and affordable solution would be a significant benefit to users of all kinds," said Jun.

"Our goal with the ideacentre Stick 300 is to give those users a sense of freedom and enhanced mobility, while packing a serious punch in a small device."

The upgradability to Windows 10 could prove a key selling point for business buyers and developers.

Windows 10 was unveiled in October 2014 and is designed to bridge the gap between Microsoft's desktop and mobile operating systems, giving developers a single Universal Apps platform to work on.

The OS is currently available as a technical preview on selected Lumia devices, and all Windows PCs and laptops. Check out V3's Windows 10 technical preview hands-on to learn more about the new features.

Lenovo is one of many firms releasing pocket-sized PCs. Intel unveiled its own-brand Compute Stick at CES 2015. Unlike the ideacentre Stick 300 the Intel Compute Stick is being offered with Linux or Windows.
