Mahindra Satyam CEO says UK is integral to his business

The UK will be a focus following the firm's merger with Tech Mahindra

Following the merger of Indian outsourcing giants Tech Mahindra and Mahindra Satyam, CP Gurnani (pictured), CEO of Mahindra Satyam, has said that the UK will be a focus for his business.

One third of Mahindra Satyam's business currently comes from customers in the UK and the rest of Europe. The firm's UK customers include both BT and Unilever.

Speaking exclusively to Computing, Gurnani said the UK would continue to be important to his firm.

"The UK is going to be a focus. I see the UK as being the business capital for us.

"I have a development facility in Milton Keynes, an office in Pall Mall, and we also have a huge facility in Belfast and a huge facility in Scotland. The UK will remain not only close to our hearts but an integral part of our business."

He added that the merger between the two firms would not cause any internal disruption as it is something they have been working towards for three years, likening that to a period of co-habitation.

"We have known that the merger would happen for three years, and the integration has been a work-in-progress for that time.

"What's happening now is like a marriage after a period of co-habitation. The companies know one another very well."

Gurnani also said that the merger brings his firm up to the ideal size to serve his customers, claiming that some of his competitors have grown too large.

"Some of our competitors, such as Accenture, Infosys, Tata and Wipro have all become too big. Somewhere below their size is optimal for this business.

"We are large enough to support global delivery centres, but are still nimble enough to react to customers quickly, and in the way that they would want."
