Immediacy branches out with DMS
Web content management firm Immediacy is moving into document control
Web content management specialist Immediacy last week announced a move into document management with a system that aims to provide a user-friendly and cost-effective way of capturing, storing, managing, searching and delivering documents.
Immediacy DMS is built on the .Net 2.0 Framework, making it easier for developers to design plug-ins, and integrates with the firm’s CMS product and Microsoft Office, according to Immediacy product manager, James Hoskins.
It also features powerful workflow capabilities that allow users to design their own workflows using a graphical tool, and a pre-built workflow system to simplify document management and provide analysis and reporting capabilities, he added.
“The focus is very much on ease of use. We’ve tried to apply what we’re doing in the web content management space and provide an environment users are comfortable with, so it will have a Microsoft look and feel,” Hoskins explained. “Using the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning [WebDAV] standard, you can use Explorer to access information, and using a plug-in, check documents in and out of Word itself.”
The system is engineered to support eCopy document management and scanning software, which allows users to scan in a paper document and have it brought directly into Immediacy DMS in electronic format.
“We’re looking at the end-to-end [process], so we’re integrating with eCopy,” Hoskins said. “Customers are interested in buying DMS as an extension to their [existing Immediacy] CMS, and it’s an attractive alternative to the larger enterprise content management vendors’ products.”
