Free service helps firms cope with World Cup skivers
Online diary helps companies to spot when sporting events and business will clash
With the World Cup just over a week away and many firms expecting high levels of absenteeism during the tournament, Columba Systems, a supplier of events information to investment banks and hedge funds, has today (2 June) launched a free online business and sports events diary service to help firms assess their staffing requirements during the summer.
Columba Systems chief executive Dean Radcliffe said in a statement that one problem is that several significant economic announcements are expected to clash with major sporting events. He added that firms should make preparations accordingly, to ensure they are adequately staffed without unnecessarily alienating employees who wish to watch events such as the World Cup.
For example, on 6 July, interest rate decisions from the European Central bank and Monetary Policy Committee coincide with the Wimbledon semifinals, the Henley Regatta, and the morning after a possible England World Cup semifinal appearance.
"With a series of big economic indicators like interest rate decisions due, firms will be nervous," said Radcliffe. "Firms making use of technology are more likely to find a balance that suits both them and their staff.”
Columba's new “Keep Your Eye On The Ball” diary service is designed to help financial services firms find this balance. Registered users can search by event types, countries, dates and regions to find out where relevant sporting and financial clashes occur.
