Airport adverts go digital
Fujitsu Services wins 10-year contract to install and support e-advertising infrastructure at BAA airports
Heathrow's new Terminal 5 will be the first to use digital advertising
Digital advertisements are to be introduced at many of the UK’s major airports, starting with the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow.
Advertising company JCDecaux is to provide the service, called a digital media network, at all seven airports owned by BAA, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The technology will be provided and supported by IT services supplier Fujitsu Services, which has signed a 10-year outsourcing deal with JCDecaux.
Fujitsu will install the necessary infrastructure at Terminal 5, before rolling it out to the other airports.
Digital media offers much greater flexibility to advertisers. JCDecaux will sell the e-advertising space, and the data will be stored by Fujitsu and displayed through a content management system at a particular location for a set period of time.
‘Digital media will become an integral part of the next-generation of advertising and airports are the perfect environment for this media,’ said Paula Oliver, development director at JCDecaux Airport.
