Industry veteran to head up National Skills Academy for IT

Ex-Nortel CIO Tony Read appointed as CEO for UK IT academy

National Skills Academy for IT is due to launch in the autumn

E-skills UK has appointed ex-Nortel CIO Tony Read to the position of chief executive for the National Skills Academy for IT.

The organisation said the new academy would benefit from Read's "wealth of relevant experience". Read has worked for more than 25 years in the IT and telecommunications industry, including stints as a CIO/IT senior vice president within two global corporations and a startup.

Since 2002, Read has run his own IT management and project management consulting practice in North America, supporting company startups and delivering strategic projects for the likes of HP and Bell Canada.

Read is also a visiting professor at two Canadian universities, and has a BSc in Management Science, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree, a masters in change management, and PhD in information systems.

The National Skills Academy for IT launched its web site in March, and is scheduled to be fully up and running in the autumn.
