The eye-catching stories from the past seven days

While the hurly-burly of the Olympics dominated the majority of the world's media, one major story that did get the attention it deserved was that of Nasa confirming that its Curiosity rover machine had landed on Mars.

No mean feat, and the fact it was announced via Twitter (most likely from someone on planet Earth, mind) was all the more ground-breaking, so it's no surprise this was the most popular story of the past seven days among V3 readers.
