Lenovo touts greenest ever monitors

New ThinkVision displays win TCO certification

The ThinkVision L2251x Wide is made from recycled plastics

Lenovo has released five new monitors that come brimming with green credentials, including the ThinkVision L2251x Wide, which the company describes as its most environmentally responsible monitor yet.

The L2251x Wide is made from recycled plastics, offers low power consumption and is the first PC monitor to be TCO Certified Edge (PDF).

Vendors awarded Edge certification have already met environment and usability criteria in IT design, but are given a bit of an extra credit for going beyond expectations.

"As the first PC company to achieve TCO Certified Edge for its L2251x Wide monitor, Lenovo leads the industry in a number of areas including reduced electromagnetic emissions and low use of sensitive materials," said Sören Enholm, president of TCO Development.

"Lenovo has gone the extra mile to achieve TCO Display 5.0 certification for all of its new monitors."

The new screens, which include the ThinkVision L1711p, L1951p Wide, L2250p Wide, and L2251p Wide, are also EPEAT Gold Rated 1.

Lenovo added that they are 50 per cent more energy efficient than their previous equivalents, and include mercury-free panels, low halogen components and recycled packaging.

"TCO Certified Edge products like the ThinkVision L2251x Wide monitor illustrate how designing for energy and materials efficiency helps the environment and customers' IT budgets," said Tom Shell, vice president of Lenovo's Visuals Business Unit.

The Lenovo ThinkVision L1951p Wide, L2250p Wide and L2251p Wide monitors will be available on 23 October at £134, £165 and £176 respectively. The ThinkVision L1711p and L2251x Wide will be available on 6 November for £124 and £206 respectively.
