Almost half of all women see no future in IT
Do women have long term IT careers? They don't think so
According to a survey by job site, and networking portal womenintechnology.co.uk forty one percent of women have no confidence in their ability to pursue a long career in IT.
Reasons highlighted in the survey, which was conducted at Womenintechnology event, "How to get ahead in IT", include concerns that employers will not want to hire a "mum of two", and a perceived difficulty in returning to work after having a baby.
Other respondents were simply unsure of what career paths would be open to them, and could not say whether a move into middle management was likely. In fact sixty five per cent of those women that took part said that they did not have a clear vision of where their career would take them.
"I know where I would like to be but I'm not sure how to get there" said one respondent.
