Hosting firm Hostway begins new on-demand managed storage service

Web hosting vendor Hostway will today begin offering a new on-demand managed storage service. It will allow UK firms to buy capacity on a gigabyte per month basis, with a 99.99 percent availability service level agreement.

The service runs on Pillar Data Systems’ Axiom 500 hardware, deployed in datacentres in London and Hanover. The Axiom system lets firms specify different performance options for their data, ranging from the highest for business-critical data to archive quality for less important content.

A fully managed 5TB storage service costs about £25,000 per month, said Hostway. This provides 5TB capacity in the London facility and a mirrored 5TB in Hanover, with asynchronous replication via Hostway’s network between the two.
