ING extends IT infrastructure outsourcing deal

Atos Origin will work on the implementation of a simpler IT set-up

ING wants to simplify its IT infrastructure

Dutch bank ING has awarded a “significant” contract extension to Atos Origin for the implementation and management of its IT infrastructure.

The supplier’s new brief will include increasing the bank’s storage capacity and introducing innovations in its infrastructure, as well as implementing and managing a new, simplified IT set-up.

All data storage related to the workplace environment in the Netherlands and Belgium will also be covered by the vendor and based on its information lifecycle management system portfolio.

Atos Origin had already been working with the bank in activities such as application development, system integration and back-office payment processing.

Earlier this year, it emerged that ING was revising ongoing deals with IT suppliers and cutting 7,000 jobs worldwide to mitigate losses of €2bn (£1.7bn).

The restructuring plan aimed to generate savings in "head office, marketing, the Formula 1 programme, consultancy, third-party staff and the renegotiating of certain contracts with IT vendors", the financial services firm said in a statement at the time.
