Mandelson: British business expertise can play an important role in Iraq economy

A UK software provider will see its system go live at Iraq’s biggest bank this week, as part of plans for rebuilding the country’s business infrastructure.

B-Plan Information Systems’ banking software was due to be launched on Monday [6 April] by Rafidian Bank.

It was one of the early highlights of a business delegation to the country headed by UK business and enterprise secretary Lord Mandelson.

The Department of Business and Enterprise said the system will be rolled out to 150 branches of Rafidian Bank, providing 4.5 million account holders with modern banking accounts.

"The size and seniority of the delegation reflects the importance that both the British government and British business place in Iraq and its people,” said Mandelson.

“British business expertise and skills can play an important role in the development of the Iraq economy and the UK government will do all it can to make a positive contribution to the economic future of Iraq".
