Scottish authority to scan benefits

North Lanarkshire Council to use document management to handle forms

North Lanarkshire Council is to use a £200,000 document imaging and storage system to help manage its 45,000-strong annual benefit caseload.

The system will allow benefits documentation to be scanned into its system from its 10 shops and four offices throughout the authority's area, removing paper processes and cutting out courier fees.

Hugh McGhee, benefits manager at North Lanarkshire Council says it sees numerous benefits that the document scanning and management system can bring.

'Not least of these is the centralisation of our documentation that will enable us to better support mobile working,' he said.

The Comino supplied system is expected to go live from late 2006.
