Is Vodafone set to cut UK jobs?
Reports suggest an announcement is imminent from mobile phone giant
Vodafone's UK sales fell slightly
Vodafone could be the next major technology firm to cut hundreds of UK jobs, according to reports.
The mobile operator is looking to reduce costs during the downturn, according to news agency Bloomberg, which predicted that an announcement on the plans could come as soon as 24 February.
Vodafone has so far declined to comment.
The firm’s latest financial results, for the three months to 31 December, released on 3 February, showed worldwide group revenue up 14 per cent to £10.5bn, but UK sales fell by 0.7 per cent to £1.2bn.
Chief executive Vittorio Colao said at the time that the firm had "made progress on our plans to reduce costs by £1bn by March 2011".
