Flybe tightens security

Upgraded system will help track system access and meet data regulations

Flybe flies to 12 countries across Europe

Regional airline Flybe has upgraded its security systems for handling customers' financial data.

Flybe has more than 20 million visitors to its web site per year and 85 per cent of bookings are taken online. With more than 2000 devices connected to its databases, the airline needed to be able to track attempts access to information as well as the data itself.

Security systems need to be scalable and able to handle peaks and troughs of demand, said Flybe IT security manager Chris Cooper.

"We needed a technology that could monitor events across our network and manage sharp increases in information needing to be stored," he said.

The scheme will also help meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) which governs the storage of customer data.

Enterprise security specialist Gradian helped Flybe install the technology from vendor RSA.
