NATO develops cyber task force

The team will aim to improve cyber defence capabilities

NATO has agreed plans to put together a special task force, dubbed Cyber Red Team, which will defend its members against online attacks.

The alliance will also strengthen online defences between the 28 member states by creating a so-called cyber shield as well as codes of conduct for warfare engagement, according to reports from SC Magazine.

"NATO is planning to establish the Cyber Red Team [...] which would provide a significant contribution to the improvement of NATO's cyber defence capability," NATO senior scientist Luc Dandurand is reported to have said.

Dandurand also said there were plans to launch offensive strikes against potential targets – which would include denial of service attacks – participate in cyber defence exercises, and use intelligence to assess the vulnerability of individual member states.
