IT jobs will be in banking, software and telecoms in 2010
Survey identifies sectors that will see increases in IT jobs
The city is still a hotspot for IT jobs
Banking, software and telecoms will be the key sectors for those looking to work in IT in 2010, according to a survey by the IT job board.
Nearly half (48 per cent) of 129 IT job candidates surveyed said that banking would be the principal sector for jobs, in spite of the problems it has faced in 2009.
Som 42 per cent said they would look for work in software and IT services, and 41 per cent opted for telecoms.
Peter Healey, sales director at the IT Job Board, said: "I believe that next year the finance sector will really pick up. Banking was the first sector to be hit during the recession, but it will also be the first to recover, and it will offer a lot of opportunity in terms of IT recruitment."
When it came to the jobs in demand for 2010, one third (34 per cent) thought it would be project manager roles - the same percentage opted for business analyst jobs.
Almost one third (31 per cent) of respondents said most demand would be for skills in internet IT, with 29 per cent opting for skills in SAP, 26 per cent in Java, and 26 per cent in web-development roles.
Over half (58 per cent) said that contract jobs would be in greater demand during 2010, compared with permanent positions.
Healey added that in recent months the IT Job Board had experienced a significant uplift in the number of vacancies being advertised on the site.
