Aruba boosts WLAN admin and security

Aruba has announced software upgrades that will help firms plan and manage wireless rollouts

Wireless LAN vendor Aruba has released two software upgrades to improve the planning and management of wireless.

Aruba said that the enhanced software would “allow firms to implement a ‘global mobility domain’ that can scale with their existing security infrastructure and be intelligently managed”.

Version 3.1 of ArubaOS enhances the vendor’s core firmware engine for managing its wireless LAN switches, while Mobility Management System (MMS) 2.0 is the latest version of Aruba’s application suite for planning and managing both data and voice components.

Both releases incorporate new features that allow the management of WLAN equipment and services to be delegated to the most appropriate administrators.

The upgrades also include enhanced bandwidth and voice management controls for tackling problems with data transfer rates, latency and jitter issues with voice over WLAN.

Aruba said that its software architecture has been designed to provide consistent network services to users independent of their location.

The vendor is also touting better integration with enterprises’ existing security infrastructure and services. This includes offering functions to support syslog processing, easy temporary-worker and guest access to wireless networks, event management and integration with the open-source Snort intrusion detection and prevention system.

Both ArubaOS 3.1 and MMS 2.0 are available free to existing users of the software. Adding MMS 2.0 to Aruba hardware costs $4,000 (£2,000 + VAT).
