PCS cancels planned strike at HP
Real prospect of settling the whole issue, according to PCS national officer Jim Hanson
HP talks with PCS set to "go on into the night," says PCS
A planned two-day strike by staff working for HP's Enterprise Services division has been cancelled pending further discussions.
Up to 1,000 members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) would have been involved in the action.
The discussions will take place tomorrow with ACAS – the mediation body that offers advisory, conciliation and arbitration services – and if they are successful, the union will drop further action planned for the 6-7 April.
"We may have a real prospect of settling the whole issue," said Jim Hanson, PCS national officer for HP.
"HP's management have indicated they may be prepared to make some concessions on the issues of fair pay and job security – tomorrow's discussions will look at what and how much," explained Hanson.
The strike planned for today and tomorrow concerns ex-EDS employees working on government contracts in the North East and North West of the UK.
