Gloucestershire Council saves with Capgemini

Local authority embarks on IT transformation

Capgemini has extended its relationship with the Gloucestershire County Council

Gloucestershire County Council plans to save up to £60m over the next four years as part of a new transformation programme in partnership with IT consultancy Capgemini.

The programme, known as Building our Future, aims to reduce spend by improving efficiency and cutting bureaucracy, with the council to produce a new budget and planning framework and make a number of organisational changes.

"Our new IT system provides a springboard for change by improving communication across the council, giving staff the consistent and timely information they need for decision-making and allowing us to explore in detail a number of money saving scenarios," said Peter Bungard, chief executive of Gloucestershire County Council.

The programme builds on the existing relationship between the council and the IT consultants. In 2006, Capgemini was chosen by Gloucestershire County Council to update its IT systems.

Capgemini produced an integrated business management information system for the council, which has helped save £5m since its implementation in January 2008.

The programme is Capgemini's second major deal with a local authority in the past four months. The consultancy became the partner for West Sussex County Council's service review programme, aimed at becoming more efficient and cutting cost, in October.
