Grisoft to buy Linkscanner supplier
Technology developed by Exploit Prevention Labs will help protects users from malware
Infected hyperlinks are a growing problem
Antivirus software developer Grisoft is to acquire Exploit Prevention Labs, a security company specialising in web site access controls.
The firm's LinkScanner technology will allow Grisoft's users to inspect sites in advance and limit their exposure to malware.
Grisoft says that the traditional response to computer viruses is becoming outdated.
"Unsafe hyperlinks and the poisoning of legitimate websites represent one of the biggest threats facing computer users since the advent of viruses,” said Grisoft chief executive J R Smith.
“The research and technology behind LinkScanner will enable us to provide our 60-plus million users with access to the most complete protection against internet security threats."
The deal is expected to be finalised by 31 December.
