Commission for Social Care Inspection secures mobile data

Oragnisation protects sensitive data

The Commission for Social Care Inspection has rolled out a mobile security system to its 1,280 staff as part of a major broadband connection project across the organisation’s nine regions.

The security system provided by Disk Protect enables security for all mobile workers’ laptops, fulfilling government requirements for connecting to the Government Secure Intranet (GSI).

The broadband project, managed by Fujitsu, will include new software applications in the coming months.

Staff are able to securely log on to the network and gain access to files from shared areas, reducing the security risk from storing files locally on the laptop.

If a laptop is lost or stolen the data held on the computer is inaccessible.

‘Before the broadband initiative, mobile workers were using dial up connections to synchronise their mail boxes, which could be a lengthy process, and they had no access to files that were held on the network,’ said CSCI operations manager Tim Ellingham.
