Scottish college overhauls network
Cardonald College replaces voice and data systems
Cardonald College, a Glaswegian vocational and higher education institution, has worked with communications integrator Affiniti to overhaul its entire voice and data network.
The future-proofed network will provide wireless voice and data connectivity and increased bandwidth to support rising numbers of students and staff.
The college is to invest £22.4 million redeveloping the campus and its services. The existing system does not have the capacity to support converged services or new applications.
Allan Forsyth, assistant principal for information systems at Cardonald College, said: ‘We needed to include current and predicted requirements of the College in our communications system. Wireless connectivity is core to this, so students and staff can be connected whether they are in a library hall or in a classroom.’
The integration will also help the college to improve its e-learning program.
'Having this network is a crucial part of being able to support blended learning, where we use online materials and chat facilities alongside traditional methods of teaching,' said Forsyth.
