C&W bolsters video conferencing solution
Partnership with BCS Global yields new Virtual Telepresence suite
Cable & Wireless this week beefed up its offering in the fast expanding market for high definition, life size video-conferencing systems, or so-called telepresence suites, with the launch of a new managed video-conferencing and collaboration solution that boasts interoperability with a range of different video technologies.
The company said that the new Virtual Telepresence suite, which has been delivered through a partnership with managed video conferencing solution provider BCS Global, will deliver seamless integration with rival vendor's telepresence suites as well as desktop video appliances, webcams, 3G video phones and audio devices; would offer users the chance to customise screen layouts; and would be available through an unlimited use video-calling plan featuring detailed billing information.
Jamie Cope, director of strategic alliances at BCS Global, said that the provision of a managed service with the video conferencing software, including a "video concierge" service offering face-to-face assistance and support over the video link, would make it easier for firms to use the new technology and improve the effectiveness of telepresence meetings.
He added that adoption of telepresence solutions had accelerated in the last few months as concerns over the loss of productivity and environmental costs associated with corporate travel continue to climb. "The advantage of telepresence [over traditional desktop videoconferencing] is that it offers a truly immersive experience," he said. "The image really does create the impression the other person is sitting across the table from you."
