Premier League scores with hosted email security

Top football organisation transfers service to the cloud

The Premier League has kicked spam into touch

The Premier League has opted for a cloud computing-style service to manage the security of its email communications.

The organisation behind the top English football competition has signed a deal with supplier Webroot to use its software-as-a-service hosted platform.

The League needs secure email around the clock as its employees and management communicate with football officials, clubs and key sponsors worldwide, according to head of IT Simon Thunder.

“Email is a significant form of communication for us,” he said.

“As a prominent brand, we are targeted by spammers, often receiving up to 50,000 spam emails a day. With Webroot, our email users are protected against spam, viruses and other external threats. We have instantly seen an improvement in productivity and can now be sure of a highly accurate and secure email filtering service. This is imperative in such a fast moving environment such as ours.”

Thunder said the Premier League opted for the hosted system after receiving a free trial that proved to be better than the previous supplier.

“Not only have we been impressed by the greater manageability and better protection, but we are delighted by the exceptional customer support, all of which has instilled our own IT team with a renewed confidence in email security,” he said.
