TomTom rolls out Go Live 1000

Company promises big things from new navigation device

TomTom is promising better navigation from its Go Live 1000 system

TomTom has released its first device to promise real-time navigation information. The Go Live 1000 will offer the ability to recalculate and plan travel routes based on a combination of current traffic information and historical travel time data.

TomTom is hailing the device as the first in a "new generation" of navigation systems, touting not only the improved hardware, but the integration of traffic and route-planning systems to provide what the company promises to be "real time " navigation service.

"The Go Live 1,000 has been designed to make the journey a relaxed, predictable, safe and enjoyable experience," said TomTom managing director Corinne Vigreux.

"Thanks to our technologies we know the road ahead and what is happening on the journey."

The Go Live 1000 will be able to provide navigation and local search features for at least 33 different European countries on its release.

Additionally, the device will feature a redesigned interface based on Webkit, the engine used for the Safari and Chrome browsers, as well as support for third-party applications and tools.

Powering the Go Live 1000 will be a new 500MHz Arm processor and a capacitive touch-screen input system.

The new device is set to be released later this summer in Europe, and will include a 12-month subscription to the TomTom service.
