UK waits on Microsoft security package
The Windows Live OneCare service includes anti-malware and backup tools
Microsoft has launched its client security subscription service in the US but UK users will need to wait for 12 months or more for a local equivalent.
Microsoft’s Windows Live OneCare package comprises antivirus, anti-spyware, firewall, backup and performance tuning and users pay a subscription to keep the software updated. Symantec and McAfee also plan to roll out holistic security offerings.
However, Microsoft said it is some way off making OneCare an international product.
“We know that PC care is an issue for customers worldwide and international rollout is of the utmost priority for the product team,” said a spokesman. “Our goal is to begin rolling out the service in beta in additional markets within the next 12 months.”
