Information sharing guidelines published
Companies can adapt the code to suit their specific requirements, says data watchdog
Guidance will help reduce confusion, says ICO
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is inviting discussion of an updated framework code of practice for sharing personal information.
The guidelines are designed to help organisations comply with the Data Protection Act and adopt best practice.
'The framework code of practice should also help to reduce the uncertainty that can surround information-sharing,' said ICO head of data protection projects Iain Bourne.
The guidance is designed to be flexible and non-techncial and the ICO is encouraging organisations to use it to produce their own codes of practice.
