University form wireless partnership

Scottish researchers get commercial money and expertise to measure signals

The University of Strathclyde is to increase its research into next generation of wireless broadband systems, thanks to a new commercial research partnership.

Scientists at the university are looking to test and measure the signal strength of wireless broadband networks in urban areas in order to improve services to mobiles and laptops.

The partnership with technology firm, Agilent will include working on a shared project, and a grant of £20,000.

Ivan Andonovic, the professor at Strathclyde who will be running the investigation, says the development of next generation communications systems presents many research challenges.

'This area is heavily reliant on multi-disciplinary teams of talented engineers, so partnering with Agilent to carry out this research will really help us,' he said.
