Channel 4 tunes IT infrastructure
4OD will allow web site users to watch television, films, and other video content
Channel 4 Television has extended its IT infrastructure to support its new video-on-demand (VOD) service, 4oD.
The channel is deploying a BEA WebLogic Server platform to increase the amount of online media it can offer on its channel4.com web site.
‘This gives us flexibility to expand the VOD service as demand grows,’ said Bob Harris, responsible for IT strategy and architecture at Channel 4.
4oD will allow web site users to watch television programmes, films and other video content via cable, broadband and mobile devices whenever they want.
Channel 4 is one of the first major broadcasters to make all its commissioned content available on-demand on its web site.
