Home builder George Wimpey UK has implemented optimisation software to measure and adjust bandwidth across its business network guaranteeing 100 per cent performance on critical applications.

The new system helps prioritse key applications without buying extra bandwidth and allows major applications to be processed more quickly and efficiently, says Phil Jones, George Wimpey IT service delivery manager.

‘Understanding the makeup of the wide area network data (Wan) will aid future spend decisions such as delaying the investment in extra bandwidth’ said Jones.

The new system supplied by Ipanema guarantees staff 100 per cent application performance critical applications across the company’s 26 regional businesses and three satellite offices

Other benefits include the IT department having complete control over the network with the ability to right-size it according to user needs whilst controlling and monitoring everything that crosses the Wan.

‘We are now able to totally control our current Network usage and proactively plan for future central application rollouts,’ said Jones.

The new applications are hosted in a data centre by the company’s outsourcing partner LogicaCMG and distributed to the local businesses via Citrix and web technologies.
