Commission to make call on Galileo funding
Some participating countries want to pay more for a larger stake in the project
The funding of Galileo is still uncertain
The European Commission will clarify how the Galileo satellite navigation system is to be funded, on Wednesday.
The scheme is intended to rival the US Global Positioning System (GPS), but has suffered delays due to a failure to secure private financing and concerns over its profit structure.
It is expected that the Commission will decide whether the €2.4bn (£1.7bn) shortfall will be met out of an existing EU budget or by individual member states who want a larger stake in the project.
