Uplogix give firms remote control
Uplogix appliance can manage devices in remote locations
Network management vendor Uplogix has unveiled a new appliance capable of managing equipment in far-flung locations over secure links.
The Uplogix 430 is a fixed 4-port system designed for remote sites, which can manage up to four devices.
This is a huge benefit where organisations have high-end network kit in remote locations, said Uplogix marketing vice president Mark Piening. “Some customers have sites with few devices and no people."
“Uplogix systems can automate 70 per cent of routine field technician actions, which he pointed out could reduce aggregate network support costs by 50 per cent," he added.
Piening said standard network polling every five minutes may raise alarms, but administrators have to go through manual actions to try and expedite the problem. The Uplogix system polls every 30 seconds and automates initial actions to try and resolve any problem. If this is not successful the Uplogix appliance will notify firms’ network operations centre of the actions it has taken and then suggests possible remedies, with all the steps it has taken so far being stored for compliance reporting.
Multiple remote appliances are managed through the Uplogix Control Centre, a web-based, centralised point of control.
Uplogix already has hardware for managing enterprise datacentre equipment, its flagship system the Uplogix Envoy, which it will rebrand as the 3200
The Uplogix 430 will be available in July with a manufacturer suggested retail price starting at £1,280 + VAT ($2,500).
