A £1.5m research project will explore the educational possibilities for semantic web

City University London has been awarded £1.5m to research the potential of the emantic web as a teaching and learning tool.

The university's Learning and Development Centre will work with the Centre for Applied Research into Educational Technologies at the University of Cambridge, following the grant from the Economic and Social Research Council (ERSC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

The semantic web is seen as a next-generation internet platform that allows information such as search requests to be intuitively understood and relevant content exchanged.

“The winning of this £1.5m grant under the Technology Enhanced Learning Programme is a great achievement," said Professor Malcolm Gillies, vice chancellor and president at City University London.
