RFU scores a try with player database

Rugby union installs system to monitor health and performance

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has made major improvements to its elite player health and performance monitoring system.

The Elite Player Analysis System (EPAS) is now accessible to England's rugby academies, premiership clubs and the England coaching team, providing them with detailed knowledge on the physical condition players are in.

The change to the updated system was handled by strategic IT consultancy Centralis.

Mike Morris, the RFU's network manager, says it was vital that the EPAS system remained available to existing users throughout the development process.

'The migration programme Centralis developed ensured continual access to the system throughout the migration, allowing our users to access vital information at all times,' he said.

'The new system is already delivering huge benefits. By migrating we have increased the number of users that can access EPAS at any one time, dramatically improved session reliability and resolved all the printing issues.'

The RFU is now planning further expansions of the system, and will use it to cover the entire rugby premiership.
