F5 launches next gen ADC
Viprion is designed to deliver improved performance and reduce datacentre emissions
App delivery vendor F5 Networks today announced what they claim to be the only "on-demand application delivery controller (ADC) available on the market".
Called Viprion, the new system has been designed to deliver the performance of four of F5's BIG-IP 8800 systems. Viprion is built up of removable blades which can manage about 50,000 secure sockets layer (SSL) transactions per second (TPS) and 800,000 Layer 7 requests per second (RPS), according to F5.
The vendor claims a top-of-the-line application control engine (ACE) can only manage around 12,000 SSL TPS and 76,000 L7 RPS. F5 also said that Viprion not only addresses performance issues, but could also reduce firms' datacentre carbon footprint through its ability to consolidate the number of application servers firms require, reducing the need for power and space.
The Viprion chassis is 7U high and can support up to four Viprion blades, each of which has two dual core processors, twelve gigabit copper ports, four small form factor pluggable(SFP) gigabit ports and two optional ten gigabit small form factor pluggable (XFP) 10 GbE ports.
