Deployment delays waste money, research shows
IT managers are being prevented from automatically deploying software
Research published today claims two thirds of large UK companies are throwing money down the drain over the time taken to deploy new software.
Some 71 per cent of IT departments surveyed by research firm Vanson Bourne, spend half their time supporting users, which means they are left with little time to spend on software deployment.
A further 19 per cent say support takes over three quarters of their time.
This corresponds with the 69 per cent who say they leave new software untouched for at least six months, and the 85 per cent who take six months or longer to deploy it.
‘Waiting more than a year to roll out software is like paying now and buying later,’ says Stephan Glathe, managing director and chief technology officer of Enteo Software, the research’s sponsor.
‘IT is meant to underpin and drive business performance but this research would indicate that this isn't happening due to the fact that IT staff lack the tools to do this quickly and efficiently.’
Just under a third of companies (29 per cent) say they manually install applications. But this figure rises to 41 per cent of companies surveyed that had up to 3,000 employees.
