Breach Security buys ThinkingStone for web app firewalls
Breach will work to make ThinkingStone's ModSecurity web app firewall easier to use
Web application security specialist Breach Security today announced it is to expand its portfolio with the acquisition of ThinkingStone, which produces the extensively-deployed web application firewall ModSecurity.
The deal will see Breach continuing to support open source versions of ModSecurity with a new upgrade released today, as well as providing inexpensive commercial versions in the future, including the ModSecurity Pro Appliance M1000, which will be priced below $6000.
ThinkingStone's Ivan Ristic, who becomes chief evangelist at Breach, said, " ModSecurity is very capable but a bit difficult to use because it is very powerful - Breach will bring user friendliness to the table, so you don't have to know everything about web application security [to operate it]."
According to Marc Shinbrood, chief executive of Breach, ModSecurity functionality will enable the firm to "bring web application security to everyone", and a range of deployment options will be offered to customers.
"It's time price didn't get in the way of people protecting their privileged information," he said. "Nowadays if you have web applications, you have to have a web app firewall – put together ModSecurity and our WebDefend product and you've got a really powerful solution."
