Kaspersky launches major new updates to its Anti-Virus product range

Secure content management specialist Kaspersky Lab has launched major new upgrades to several of its corporate Anti-Virus products, featuring faster scanning times and performance enhancements, according to the vendor.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations, Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows File Servers and Administration Kit 6.0 are all based on the firm's new Open Space Security philosophy, which was designed to help firms protect their increasingly mobile workforce.

The products feature support for Cisco's Network Admission Control technology and firms can apply new rules for antivirus protection when outside of the corporate network, said Kaspersky's US chief executive, Steve Orenberg.

"What we're saying is that even if you're outside of the corporate network, when you come back in we will be able [to ensure] that workstation can't bring anything back in; it's follow-me security," Orenberg added.

As well as featuring signature-based technology, the antivirus capabilities have been improved with the inclusion of proactive technology, which is able to identify and block unknown malware, Orenberg explained.

"The last line of defence is signature-based, but an ungodly amount of new malware is being written today on an hourly basis," Orenberg said.

There are also enhancements that speed-up antivirus scanning to reduce performance and productivity losses, according to sales engineer Darcie Denault.

The firm's iChecker and iStream features have also been enhanced to enable the products to scan only new or modified files, while another feature monitors users' PCs and can adjust the amount of computing power it uses depending on the status of the PC.
