Capgemini wins design contract

Consultancy to develop information sharing index for use by child workers

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has selected Capgemini to design an information sharing system intended to improve child welfare.

The Information Sharing Index will hold basic data on every child in England, together with contact details of practitioners involved with children.

Design of the system is scheduled to be completed in December this year, with a full rollout planned for the end of 2008.

The contract is an important development for childcare in the UK, says Anna Smallwood, child systems consultant at local government user group Socitm.

‘It will enable all practitioners to find out who else has information about a child,’ she said.
