Suite gives CIOs insight into performance of IT
Troux Technologies launches a suite featuring reporting functionality from Cognos
IT governance specialist Troux Technologies has launched a suite featuring reporting functionality from business intelligence (BI) software vendor Cognos that is designed to give CIOs a better view of their firms’ IT environments.
Troux’s Actionable Enterprise Architecture (AEA) platform integrates the vendor’s Metis metadata repository and IT infrastructure modelling capabilities with Cognos reporting tools to make data on the current and future state of the IT environment more visible to senior executives.
Jonas Lamis, vice-president of corporate marketing at Troux, said the new platform would help large firms extract data from the various IT infrastructure management systems they are running.
“Many global 2,000 companies have invested in lots of different IT management tools and process management tools and application development tools,” Lamis said. “Our aim is to create bridges between those different tools so we can extract all the data and layer a BI tool on top so managers can see what is going on.”
Troux predicted the new platform would appeal to both business and IT managers. For example, it could help operations managers to detect redundant or costly systems that could be axed, and it could help finance managers ensure systems comply with regulations.
However, Lamis maintained that the main benefit of AEA is its ability to give CIOs more insight into the IT department’s activities. “IT has spent much of the past 10 years putting BI in place for the rest of the business, but it has not had that same easy reporting functionality for itself,” he argued. “It is the classic case of cobblers’ children having no shoes.”
