Reuters extends reach with Messaging 6.0

Reuters adds Yahoo Messenger ties to its Communication and Collaboration product suite

Enterprise instant messaging provider Reuters has released the latest version of its flagship Communication and Collaboration Services product suite, adding Yahoo Messenger connectivity to the AOL and MSN networks already linked to the service.

Reuters Messaging 6.0 includes new tools to allow users to share data in graphical format, which will particularly appeal to the firm's core users base in the financial sector and especially the energy markets, according to David Gurlé, global head of Reuters Collaboration Services.

The new product also features enhancements to usability, including improved workflow with conversation and chat room centres.

"We've done a lot of user group studies and our customers are not just having one-to-one but many-to-many conversations, so we wanted to find ways of enabling this communication as efficiently as possible," he explained. "We've also pulled together IM, chat and email and allowed users to set alerts on keywords so they never miss what's important to them."

Version 6 also includes improved compliance and security-based features, such as encryption and strong authentication, he added.
