Mitel acquires UC assets from Toshiba

Acquisition of assets sees Toshiba leaving North American UC market.

Toshiba has signed an MoU to transfer its existing unified communications assets and support obligations in North America, including inventory, to Mitel, as reported earlier this year by CRN.

Both companies are committed to supporting warranty and maintenance obligations, ensuring that Toshiba's existing customers will have a clear path to follow.

Mitel is focused on expanding its presence in the unified communications and collaborations (UCC) market. Mitel CMO Wes Durow told CRN, "Toshiba's communications business is a perfect complement to Mitel and ultimately benefits our current customers and channel partners by expanding our footprint capabilities... In doing so, it further expands our scale as more and more businesses seek a seamless path to cloud-based unified communications and collaboration capabilities."

Durow added that Mitel hopes to add former Toshiba partners into its channel program: "Toshiba possesses a well-established and capable roster of channel partners, and we look forward to welcoming them into the Mitel family."

The transaction is expected to be completed early this summer, subjection to the completion of certain documentation and conditions.
