HTC and Samsung deliver new Windows Phone Mango handsets
Companies unveil latest smartphones to run Windows Phone 7 update
HTC and Samsung have delivered a fresh series of smartphones running Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system.
Among the first new models are the Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash handsets. The $49 Focus Flash is touted as a low-cost, lightweight phone, while the $199 Focus S features 4G broadband and a 4.3in OLED touch screen.
HTC, meanwhile, is offering the $99 Radar 4G smartphone through mobile carrier T-Mobile.
The Mango update brings an expanded Internet Explorer 9 browser, along with HTML5 and multi-tasking support.
"Windows Phone will help change the way people look at smartphones," said Microsoft Windows Phone division president Andy Lees.
"Other phones have you wade through a sea of apps, while we bubble up all the things that are important, centred around the people that matter to you most."
Microsoft has been rolling out the Mango update to existing customers in a series of updates starting in late September and continuing throughout October.
V3 readers have expressed interest in Mango handsets. A survey on the HTC Radar unveiling found that 53 per cent of readers were interested in the device, while an additional 22 per cent would be interested in Mango devices from other vendors.
